How we rank offshore sportsbooks
- Payouts we timed. We deposit our own money, bet, and time each Bitcoin withdrawal from request to wallet. A book that is slow or awkward to pay drops down the list.
- Bonus value. Rollover, minimum odds, expiry and whether you get cash or free bets matter more than the headline number.
- Banking. Which coins and methods each book takes, its minimum and maximum withdrawals and what it charges.
- Who they accept. We read each sportsbook’s terms for the states it refuses, so you don’t open an account that can’t pay you.
- Markets and support. Sports covered, live betting, props, racing, and how support answered our questions.
We earn a commission when you sign up through our links. It never changes the payout times we report, and a sportsbook that fails our payout test doesn’t make this list.
Offshore vs state-licensed sportsbooks
| Offshore sportsbooks | State-licensed sportsbooks | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you can bet | Most states, including those with no legal betting; each book excludes a few | Only inside a state that licenses it, checked by location |
| Who licenses them | A gaming licence issued outside the US | The state’s own regulator |
| Banking | Crypto first; most of our test payouts arrived the same day | Cards, bank transfer, PayPal and other e-wallets; no crypto |
| Bonuses | Bigger matches and free play, usually with a rollover | Bonus bets and odds boosts under state rules |
| Markets | Most US and world sports, racing, often politics and entertainment | What the state allows; some ban college player props or in-state college games |
| If something goes wrong | No US regulator to complain to; you rely on the book and its licence | The state regulator handles complaints |
| Taxes | Winnings are taxable; you report them yourself | Winnings are taxable; the book may report large wins to the IRS |
If your state has legal online sports betting, a licensed book gives you the most protection. Where it doesn’t, an offshore sportsbook with a long record of paying out is the realistic option, and the checks on this page are how we pick them.
Is it legal to bet with offshore sportsbooks in the US?
No federal law makes it a crime for you, the bettor, to place a bet with an offshore sportsbook. The Wire Act of 1961 and the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 are aimed at the businesses that take bets and process the payments, not at the people placing them.
Since the Supreme Court struck down the federal ban on sports betting (PASPA) in Murphy v. NCAA in May 2018, each state decides for itself. 39 states and DC now have legal sports betting: in 31 states and DC you can bet online with a state-licensed sportsbook, and 8 more allow betting only in person. Missouri is the newest online state, live since December 2025. Offshore sportsbooks are not licensed in any of them, and 11 states, including California, Texas and Georgia, have no legal sports betting at all.
Three states have laws that reach bettors as well as the sites:
- Texas: betting on the result of a game or contest is a Class C misdemeanor (Penal Code 47.02), punishable by a fine of up to $500. There is no legal sports betting in Texas.
- Washington: sending or receiving gambling information online is a class C felony (RCW 9.46.240). Sports betting is legal there only in person at tribal casinos.
- Utah: all gambling is banned, and taking part in online gambling is a class B misdemeanor (Utah Code 76-9-1402, 2025).
States are also going after offshore books directly. Florida sent cease-and-desist letters to Bovada and MyBookie in February 2025, Tennessee fined MyBookie $50,000 in April 2025, Washington sent Bovada a second cease-and-desist in September 2025, and in April 2026 Michigan said it had ordered 45 offshore operators, including BetOnline and SportsBetting.ag, to stop. The FBI also warned bettors about offshore sportsbooks in December 2025. These actions target the books, but a book that pulls out of your state can take time to return your balance, so don’t keep more in an account than you plan to bet.
Gambling winnings are taxable income, and from the 2026 tax year you can deduct only 90% of your gambling losses against them. This page is a guide, not legal advice: check your state’s law before you bet.
Payouts we timed at offshore sportsbooks

- Crypto is the way out. Every book here pays Bitcoin, and most charge nothing to withdraw it. Card deposits work at most of them, but card withdrawals don’t.
- Verify early. Your first withdrawal waits for an ID check, so upload your documents after your first deposit, not when you want your winnings.
- Watch the limits. MyBookie and BUSR pay up to $5,000 per Bitcoin withdrawal, so bigger wins come out in several requests.
- More payout tests: see our instant withdrawal sportsbooks page, and our Bitcoin sportsbooks guide for wallets and coins.
Sportsbook bonuses: what to check
- Free bets or cash? BetOnline and SportsBetting.ag pay their welcome offers as free bets, so you keep only what a free bet wins, not the stake. BetNow pays a cash match.
- Rollover: how many times you must bet the bonus (sometimes the deposit too) before you can withdraw. Bovada asks 5x on its sports bonus and Xbet 10x; BetOnline has no rollover on free-bet winnings.
- Minimum odds and expiry: bets at very short odds often don’t count, and SportsBetting.ag’s free bets expire after 30 days.
- Crypto versions: several books pay more on crypto deposits, such as Bovada’s 75% up to $750 and BetNow’s 125% up to $2,500.
- Skip it if you want your money fast: an active bonus locks your balance until the rollover is done.

What you can bet on
All seven books cover the NFL, college football, the NBA, MLB, the NHL, soccer, UFC and boxing, with spreads, moneylines, totals, parlays and futures, plus live betting during games. Standard spreads and totals are priced at -110 at books such as BetOnline and Xbet, meaning you risk $110 to win $100.
For horse racing, BUSR is the specialist, with rebates of up to 8%, and MyBookie, Bovada and BetOnline run racebooks too. Bovada also offers esports with player props, plus politics and entertainment markets. For free picks, see BettingPicks.
FAQs
What is the best offshore sportsbook for US players?
MyBookie is our top pick: it refunds your first losing bet up to $500 in free play, and its Bitcoin payouts reached us in 14 minutes and 3 hours 12 minutes. BetOnline is best for crypto banking and BUSR for horse racing.
Is it legal to bet with offshore sportsbooks?
No federal law makes it a crime for you to bet with an offshore sportsbook; federal laws target the businesses. State law varies: 39 states and DC have legal sports betting of their own, offshore books are not licensed in any state, and Washington, Utah and Texas have laws aimed at bettors.
Which states have legal sports betting?
39 states and DC. You can bet online with a state-licensed sportsbook in 31 states and DC, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Florida and Missouri. Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Washington and Wisconsin allow betting only in person. There is no legal sports betting in Alabama, Alaska, California, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Minnesota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.
Can I bet with offshore sportsbooks from any state?
No. Each book excludes some states in its terms: Bovada blocks 19 states and DC, MyBookie and Xbet block Michigan, New Jersey, Nevada, New York and Pennsylvania, and BetNow blocks New Jersey. Use our state checker to see who takes bettors from your state.
Which offshore sportsbook pays out the fastest?
MyBookie, in our tests: a $250 Bitcoin withdrawal reached our wallet in 14 minutes. BetOnline paid $225 in 38 minutes and BUSR $1,000 in 2 hours 45 minutes.
How do I deposit at an offshore sportsbook?
Crypto, usually Bitcoin, is the easiest: deposits arrive in minutes and you can withdraw the same way. Most books also take card deposits, but you can't withdraw to a card.
Do I have to pay tax on sports betting winnings?
Yes. Gambling winnings are taxable income in the US, and from the 2026 tax year you can deduct only 90% of your gambling losses against them. Offshore sportsbooks usually don't send tax forms, so you report winnings yourself.
Are offshore sportsbooks safe?
The ones on this page paid every withdrawal we made, but no US regulator stands behind them. Stick to books with a long record, verify your account early, and don't keep more in your balance than you plan to bet.
Betting should stay fun. Set a limit before you bet and never chase losses. If it stops being fun, call the National Council on Problem Gambling on 1-800-MY-RESET or visit ncpgambling.org.
